Why guests see an AI transparency note in conversations

Since August 2026, travelers located in the European Union may notice a short note at the end of the first reply written by the AI co-host in their conversation. This article explains what that note is, which guests see it, why the wording was chosen, and why it cannot be removed.

What the note says

The note is a single line added at the end of the first AI reply that reaches your guest in a conversation:

Quick note: so you always get a fast reply, an AI may sometimes answer for me 😊

A few things to know about how it behaves:

  • It appears once per conversation, not on every message. All the following replies are completely normal.
  • It is shown in the language of the conversation: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian or Dutch. If the conversation is in another language, the note appears in English.
  • You see it too: the message displayed in your Nowistay conversation is exactly the message your guest received, note included.

Why it exists: the European AI Act

The European Union adopted the AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689), the first comprehensive law on artificial intelligence. Its Article 50 sets a simple transparency rule: when a person interacts with an AI system, they must be clearly informed of it, unless it is already obvious. This obligation applies since 2 August 2026.

Guest messaging where an AI replies on your behalf falls squarely within this rule. And non-compliance is not a small risk: the regulation provides for fines of up to 15 million euros or 3% of worldwide annual turnover.

Nowistay applies the rule automatically for every host. You have nothing to configure, nothing to declare, and nothing to worry about: your guest conversations are compliant by default.

Which guests see it

The AI Act protects people located in the European Union. The note is therefore shown only when it is legally required:

  • Travelers in the EU or the European Economic Area (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) see the note.
  • Travelers outside the EU and EEA, for example in the United Kingdom, Switzerland or the United States, never see it.
  • If a traveler's country cannot be determined, the country of the property is used as a reference.

Why this exact wording

The sentence was chosen carefully:

  • Warm and personal: the note reads like a friendly aside from your side, not a legal warning. It discloses the AI clearly, as the law requires, without making the conversation feel robotic.
  • "An AI may sometimes answer for me": a conversation on Nowistay is mixed. Many replies come from the AI co-host, others are written by you or your team. "Sometimes" describes that honestly without labeling any specific message.
  • Short and discreet: one line, no link, no banner. It informs the guest without interrupting the exchange.
  • Shown once: the law requires the person to be informed, not reminded on every message. Adding it once keeps the conversation natural while fully meeting the obligation.
  • Translated: a transparency note only works if the guest understands it, so it is shown in the language of the conversation.

Can I remove or customize it?

No, and this is deliberate. The note is a legal obligation, not a display preference. If hosts could turn it off, every host who did so would put their guest conversations in breach of the AI Act. By applying the note at platform level, Nowistay guarantees that every host is protected without having to read a single line of the regulation.

In return, Nowistay applies it as precisely as the law allows: only for travelers covered by the AI Act, only once per conversation, and in the guest's language.

What changes for you and your guests

  • Nothing to set up: the note is handled automatically for all your properties.
  • The AI keeps working exactly as before: it still replies within seconds, whether the conversation happens on your booking platform's messaging, on WhatsApp or by email.
  • Your own messages are untouched: when you or your team write to a guest, nothing is added to your message.
  • The guest experience stays the same: a fast, accurate and personal answer remains exactly that. The note simply tells guests what the law says they should know.
